Social Structure
Egyptian society had a pyramid structure. At the top were the gods. And at the bottom were the servants and slaves. Egyptians believed that the gods controlled the world. Which is why it was important to keep them happy. They had the power to make the nile river overflow or kill people naturally and many other terrifying events. Ancient Egypt rulers were called pharaohs. The Egyptians also elevated some human beings to gods! Things about these people-The Egyptians social classes went, Pharaoh, Government Officials, Priests, Scribes, Artisans, And peasants. Pharaoh- Pharaoh’s Lives were very easy. They were royalty, and they were the rulers of egypt. There was even a woman pharaoh named Pharaoh Hatshepsut. She was in fact a great ruler. Government officials- Government Officials had it very easy. All there jobs consisted of was giving orders to slaves or people who would carry those orders out. They would be payed well and eat well. There jobs where very easy. They had to do no physical labor at all just give orders. Priests- There is not much about these priests except they are well respected and very religious. They would be the ones in charge of teaching and controlling their beliefs but there are more than one type of priests since they were polytheistic so they were to teach many different religions. Scribes-Usually men, They were some of few who learned to read and write. They were few and luck because most of the population couldn't read or write Farmers- Farmers where the main recourse to food. farmers did all the growing and as taxes they had payed extra food to the government. They would farm very well especially because of the nile and its fertile soil after the yearly flooding. Slaves- Slaves were looked down upon and were not well treated. They were below the class of farmers and peasants.In Fact They were the lowest class possible, They were still fed and kept alive but in poor conditions espically because of egypts hot and dry climate. |
Daily Life
The Ancient Egyptians ate very well. They were very clean people, meaning that they bathed every day even the poor found out a way to bath. In Ancient Egypt if a couple couldn't have a children, they would adopt a child. in Egypt family was very important. children were the heart of the family. The Ancient Egyptians where very clean people, even the low classes bathed everyday. They where very wealthy and a solid civilization. One of the most important things to the Ancient Egyptians was family. The heart of any family where the children, even the non-married couples adopted children. However unlike many civilizations they where not scared of there gods. If there prayers where not answered they would not be upset for they knew they couldn't have whatever they wanted. They were happy clever, clever people and they would do good deeds to 'lighten' their hearts. Daily life revolved around the Nile river and its yearly flooding which would help keep the ground fertile and good for growing crops. |
